Law Firm, 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
Dilk and SunkOne go back a long time. They have been painting and traveling together since they met back in 1993. Apart from a deep friendship they also developed a way of working together on a more experimental level than in both their individual works.
Early 2020 they were invited to paint a massive staircase in a monumental Dutch building that is home to a law firm. The owner, a contemporary art lover, gave them carte blanche and 3 storeys of white walls as a canvas to paint.
They really wanted to bring the energy and dynamic of graffiti writing into this project. Having worked together in the past they decided on a loose freestyle approach, working in layers in and over each others work. Starting off from letter-forms, then quickly shifting towards more abstract forms. Samples of hand-style flare tags and splatter lines in sharp contrast with color solids and gradients. Every angle had to offer a new and interesting composition to the viewer.
The result is an immersive experience, a supersonic blast of colors, shapes and movement that literally wraps around you when walking the stairs. Zoomed in, individual sections are like stand-alone canvasses with fragments of letter-forms and powerful spray can movements. Both artists are really inspired by the outcome, and currently looking for new opportunities to apply this meltdown of styles to murals on a larger scale.
